Vol. 438 No. 4

Written Answers. - Student Grants.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

306 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Education if students, resident in Northern Ireland are eligible for fees and maintenance grants while attending schools or universities in the Republic of Ireland.

All the European Union students are liable for the same level of fees as students from this State while attending courses in the universities here.

To be eligible to be considered for a maintenance grant under the higher education grants and related schemes a candidate's parents-guardians, or, in the case of an independent mature student the candidate himself-herself, must be ordinarily resident in the State.

Financial assistance for students from Northern Ireland attending universities in the Republic is paid by the Northern Ireland local education and library boards and by the Northern Ireland Department of Education. All queries in relation to such financial assistance should be addressed to those authorities.
