Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - Funding to Alleviate Flooding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

151 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment whether he has received from Kildare County Council requests for funding to facilitate the alleviation of flooding at Hazelhatch, Celbridge, County Kildare; if his attention has been drawn to the serious and recurring problem of flooding in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no proposals or representations in relation to this matter with my Department.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

152 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment whether adequate funds have been made available to South Dublin County Council to eliminate the recurring and severe flooding in the vicinity of the Camac River, Clondalkin, Dublin 22; if he will increase the funding by way of special allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Working drawings for Phase 1 of the Camac flood relief scheme are being examined in my Department with a view to an early approval. Given that elements of this scheme do not come within the ambit of the Water Services Programme. I propose to provide finance by way of a capital grant equal to 50 per cent of the cost of the proposed works with the balance being provided from South Dublin County Council's own resources.
