Vol. 438 No. 8

Written Answers. - Heritage Funding.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

56 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he will give details of the funding for heritage attractions in 1994 as stated in the Programme for a Partnership Government, 1993-97; and if he will make a statement on the matter, indicating who will make decisions on the disbursement of this funding.

In keeping with the commitment in the Programme for a partnership Government, 1993-97, to develop heritage attractions provision has been made in the National Development Plan, 1994-99, for a major programme of investment in culture and heritage, including waterways, costing £139 million with estimated Structural Fund support of £104.6 million.

The National Development Plan provides that the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht will have responsibility for this programme of investment. Final decisions on the arrangements and structures for disbursement of funds will not be known until negotiations on the new Operational Programme for Tourism have been completed with the EU Commission.
