Vol. 438 No. 8

Written Answers. - Glencree (Wicklow) Reconciliation Centre.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

65 Ms McManus asked the asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, in view of the mention in the 1994 budget of a contribution towards the Glencree Reconciliation Fund, the proposals, if any, he has in relation to this centre; the amount of money involved in the allocation; and when work will commence on this project.

Provision has been made in the 1994 budget for an allocation of £50,000 to the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in respect of its work in North-South reconciliation.

It is planned that use will be made of this allocation in connection with a proposed development at Glencree which involves a reconciliation centre, accommodation, coffee shop and catering facilities, reception area, interpretative facility and shops. I understand that the total capital costs of the development are estimated to be £2 million and that work will commence on the first stage in the next few weeks.
