62 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Health if he will request the relevant agency under his control to investigate the incidence of cancer in the Dungarvan-Abbeyside area of County Waterford; if the incidence is well above the national average; and if so, the reasons for this.
Information on the incidence of cancer, either nationally or locally, is not currently available. However, the National Cancer Registry Board commenced full national cancer registration on 1 January 1994. In time this will allow detailed information to be assembled on the incidence and prevalence of cancer and will facilitate the investigation of possible clusters of cancer in certain areas.
