69 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health if he will approve the application from the Western Health Board for funding for the appointment of an additional post of consultant orthopaedic surgeon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Deputy will be pleased to learn that an additional £400,000 has been allocated to the Western Helth Board this year for the expansion of orthopaedic services at Merlin Park Regional Hospital. A submission has recently been received from the board requesting amongst other consultant posts, the appointment of additional orthopaedic consultant staff. Officers from my Department will be discussing with the board, in the near future, how the development funds mentioned above will be used in 1994.
