Vol. 439 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Attendance at Court.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

114 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions that were dismissed during 1993 due to the failure of the prosecuting Garda to appear in court.

Garda and court statistics are not recorded in such a way as would enable the specific information requested by the Deputy to be compiled. However, in this connection I am not aware of any significant problems in relation to prosecuting gardaí not attending court. I should point out that in the majority of District Court sittings a Garda inspector or superintendent is in attendance and would be aware of any such problems.

If the Deputy is aware of any particular difficulties in regard to this matter he should bring them to my attention.
