Honorary consuls play an important role in supplementing the work of our Embassies and career Consulates; their functions include the provision of consular services for Irish citizens and assistance in the promotion of Irish economic interests.
The normal practice is that consuls receive an annual honorarium of £500 and may retain half of all consular fees collected but no more than £100 in respect of any one fee.
