Vol. 439 No. 7

Written Answers. - Farm Profile Returns.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

39 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Finance the number who currently avail of the farm profile system of farm tax assessment; and the number of farmers to which it is proposed to extend this system to under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work.

Approximately 16,400 farm profile return forms were issued to farmers filing tax returns in the year 1992-93. The comparable figures for 1990-91 and 1991-92 were approximately 13,500 and 15,000, respectively. Increased awareness of the farm profile return due to greater publicity in recent years by the Revenue Commissioners in conjunction with the farm organisations contributed to the increased take-up.

It is not possible at this point to indicate the possible increase in numbers using the farm profile under the Programme for Competiveness and Work as this will depend on the outcome of the examination of the farm profile system to be held under that programme.
