Vol. 440 No. 7

Written Answers. - Restructuring of Bord Fáilte.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

231 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade his statutory role in relation to the day-to-day running of Bord Fáilte; and the powers which he has under various Acts to issue directives to the board on various matters particularly in relation to the proposed restructuring of Bord Fáilte.

The day-to-day business of Bord Fáilte including grant approvals, registration of individual premises and operations etc., are matters for the board of Bord Fáilte.

My specific powers are set out in the Tourism Traffic Acts, 1931-1987 and relate mainly to policy matters specifically concerning the development of Irish tourism.

When the review of the structures and functions of Bord Fáilte has been completed, it will be necessary to consider if the changes proposed in the review may be implemented under legislation already in force or whether amendments to that legislation will be necessary.
