26 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the reason Ireland has the worst record in Europe at implementing the 1992 Internal Market Directives; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Ireland does not have the worst record in Europe for implementing internal market measures into national law. The latest European Commission transposition league table shows Ireland in tenth place, having transposed 81.7 per cent of internal market measures into Irish law; the EU average is 85.4 per cent.
All Ministers and Departments have been specifically instructed by the Government in recent times to continue their efforts to ensure that the overdue measures are implemented as quickly as possible, and that in future all new measures are dealt with by their due dates.
