Vol. 440 No. 7
299 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if a circular has been issued to all schools in relation to the May Bank Holiday; if this day reduces the school year by one; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
A circular issued to all schools on 3 February 1994 in relation to the May Bank Holiday. School authorities may allow an additional day's holiday on that day from the 1993-94 school year onwards, and the required minimum number of days of school operation in the school year has now been reduced by one. This change arises from the commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government to establish a new public holiday in May.
