Vol. 440 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ministerial Visits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

101 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the number of members of the permanent Civil Service who accompanied him on his recent trips abroad; the number, rank and status of those other than the permanent service who travelled; the reason these persons were included; the mode of transport used in each case; the costs involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Three permanent civil servants accompanied me on my trips to Brussels on 14 February 1994 and 21 March 1994 respectively. The Government jet was used for the February trip and a scheduled flight was used in March.

The costs involved were £96.24 in February. The March costs are not yet to hand but are estimated at £2,700. A detailed breakdown should be available in the next few days if required.

Three civil servants accompanied me while reviewing the St. Patrick's Day parades in Los Angeles and San Diego. Four scheduled flights were used. It is too early yet for my Department to have the full details of the costs involved but they are estimated to total £23,300.
