Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

48 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the offices under the control of his Department which have been relocated from Dublin under the decentralisation programme since the year 1987; the locations of the new offices; the number of jobs transferred; and the further proposals, if any, he has in this regard.

There are no plans for the relocation of offices under the control of my Department under the Government's decentralisation programme.

I have previously indicated my intention shortly to upgrade the existing Passport Office in Cork to a full issuing office for applicants in the Munster area. This will involve some increase in the number of staff in the Cork office and this question is currently under consideration in my Department. Following the upgrading of the Cork office, I also intend to examine the possibility of opening a new passport issuing office in the Connacht/Ulster region.
