Vol. 441 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ashbourne (Meath) Water Scheme.

John Bruton

Ceist:

117 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment if he has sanctioned the proposed water supply augmentation scheme for Ashbourne, County Meath; the total cost of the scheme; the share of the cost to be met by his Department; if he has requested Meath County Council to arrange to collect and provide a local contribution towards the cost of the project; and the options available to the council for the provisions of this contribution.

Meath County Council have been advised that my Department is prepared to provide a maximum budget of £2.61 million for the Ashbourne section of the East Meath regional water supply scheme. Approval has been given, subject to this financial arrangement, to the County Council's proceeding to the preparation of contract documents. The final cost of the scheme and the proportions to be borne by the Department and the local authority will not be known until the tender process has been completed.
