Vol. 442 No. 2

Written Answers. - Residential Place.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

140 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health if he will have arangements made to ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Waterford who is in need of full-time residential care will be provided with this; and his views on whether this request, which has been before the health board for a number of years, should be a priority on humanitarian grounds.

I would like to inform the Deputy that the person referred to requires accommodation in a high support unit. Additional funding of £1.7 million has been provided to the South Eastern Health Board for the development of various mental handicap services in 1994. Discussions are in progress between my Department and the health board concerning the precise services to be put in place. I have been assured by the South Eastern Health Board that the person referred to will be provided with a residential place as soon as possible. Home support services will be provided, if the family so wish, in the interim period. I will keep the Deputy informed of developments.
