Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fin Fish Farming.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

144 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine if it is the policy of his Department to allow fin fishing to develop at any cost.

The policy objective in relation to fin fish farming is to ensure that development takes place in a planned and well regulated manner, commensurate with the needs of other users and in harmony with the environment, while maximising the sector's acknowledged contribution to the economy in terms of jobs and revenue.

In line with this objective, all proposed fish farming projects are subject to comprehensive assessment from all relevant perspectives, in consultation with interested parties and statutory bodies.
