Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Superannuation Entitlements.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

50 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment his views on whether it is acceptable that an employee of a local authority or health board who has a wage of £200 per week receives only £31 per week pension plus a lump sum of £15,600 after 40 years of service or £23 per week plus £11,000 lump sum after 30 years of service; and the proposals, if any, he has to review the pension scheme in view of the examples cited.

The superannuation entitlements of employees of local authorities and health boards fall to be determined by their employing authorities in accordance with the local government superannuation schemes, which are in line with public service schemes generally. The amount of pension payable takes account of social welfare contributory old age pension entitlements.
