Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Travellers' Serviced Caravan Site.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

61 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the estimated cost of providing an official hard stand for a travelling family in 1994.

The cost of providing a serviced caravan site for travellers depends on a range of factors, including the cost of the land, topography of site, the cost of bringing services on to the site, the number of bays and the ancillary buildings being provided. Consequently, the cost per bay can vary appreciably from one halting site to another. The average cost per bay of permanent serviced caravan sites for travellers completed in 1993 was £36,300. However, more recently proposals being received from local authorities show a sharp upward trend in the estimated cost per bay for particular locations. Accurate costings of these proposals will not be available until tenders are received.
