Ceist:

100 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total number of people employed on social employment schemes throughout the country at present; the remuneration given to single persons and married people who are employed on such schemes; and the plans, if any, he has to increase the weekly remuneration to those engaged in such work.

The social employment scheme (SES) and the pilot community employment development programme (CEDP) were replaced on 11 April 1994 by community employment. There were 18,224 participants on the SES at the end of March 1994, with 6,643 participants on the CEDP.

Current weekly payments to participants are as follows:

With adult dependant

£110.70

Additional payment for each child dependant

Up to £12.80

Revised weekly rates will apply from 27 July 1994 as follows:

£79.30

With adult dependant

£114.00

Additional payment for each child dependant
