Vol. 442 No. 6

Written Answers. - FÁS Courses.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

42 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will give details of the number of participants in, and the resources used by FÁS, for return to work courses over the past five years; if his attention has been drawn to the long waiting lists of married women for these courses; the number of people who are being trained this year; and when women can apply again.

In the five year period between 1989 and 1993, 7,825 women participated in FÁS return to work training courses at a cost of £18 million. I am aware there is a strong demand for return to work training but with limited resources it is not possible to meet all demands for places.

In 1994, it is planned to provide 900 places for women on return to work training courses and applications should be made to local FÁS employment services offices where intending applicants will be advised of planned courses.
