Vol. 442 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Staffing of National Schools.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

41 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to continue teacher numbers in a school (details supplied) in County Galway at the present rate; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

43 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education the position regarding a request by the board of management of Kilcoona national school, Headford, County Galway to retain the second assistant teacher (details supplied), for the 1994-1995 year in view of the fact that this school will have a projected enrolment of 60 pupils on 30 September 1994; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 41 and 43 together.

The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.
The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1993 was 52 which warrants a staffing in the 1994-95 school year of a principal and one assistant. The second assistant's post will be suppressed at the end of the current school year. The teacher in question has been placed on the diocesan panel for redeployment.
