Vol. 442 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Gas Pipeline.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

43 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the locations that are likely to benefit from the extension of the natural gas pipeline in 1994; the residential areas in Dublin that may benefit; and if he has received submissions on the matter.

Bord Gáis Éireann (BGE) has a statutory obligation to develop and maintain a system for the supply of natural gas on a commercial basis and any proposals for the extension of the gas grid are assessed by the board in the light of that obligation. This is not a matter in which I have a direct involvement. Only projects which meet the board's economic criteria are undertaken. The board is at all times anxious to identify viable markets for gas and potential markets are always kept under review.
