Vol. 443 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sheep Scab.

Avril Doyle

Ceist:

111 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the proposals, if any, he has for measures to protect our flock from sheep scab in the wake of the abolition of compulsory sheep dipping.

I propose to retain sheep scab as a notifiable disease and to continue the existing requirements for outbreak control, which involve the compulsory treatment and restriction of all the sheep in affected flocks until the particular outbreak is cleared up.

Trials on an injection treatment as an alternative to dipping are showing promising results. The injection process should provide an effective, easy to use remedy when it becomes available on the market.
