Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Army Personnel.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

176 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the number of personnel that resigned from the Army in the year 1993 and to date in 1994; the number recruited in 1993 and to date in 1994; and, of those that were recruited, the number who are still in the army. [1491/94]

In 1993, 44 officers and 282 non-commissioned personnel left the Permanent Defence Force. The corresponding figures for the first eight months of 1994 are 41 officers and 247 non-commissioned personnel.

In 1993, 28 cadets, six direct-entry technical officers, 66 apprentices — four of whom left early in their training and were replaced — and six recruits for general service in the Army School of Music joined the Permanent Defence Force. The corresponding figures to date in 1994 are 36 cadets, 63 apprentices, three direct-entry technical officers and 500 recruits for general service, of whom 57 left early in their training and have been replaced.
