Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Hospital Project.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

222 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Health the estimated cost of the construction of Tallaght Regional Hospital; the extent to which the project will be funded from the European Regional Development Fund; and the allocation which will be required each year from Exchequer funds to have the hospital fully operational in 1997. [1316/94]

The total estimated cost of building and equipping Tallaght Hospital will be of the order of £120 million. The distribution of this expenditure by year over the period of the project will depend on several factors that are difficult to predict and it is not possible to give precise figures for each year at this stage. It is expected that the Tallaght Hospital Project will receive approximately £31.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

I can assure the Deputy that the necessary funding will be provided each year to enable the project to proceed to completion in accordance with the construction, equipping and commissioning programme.
