Vol. 445 No. 9

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Michael McDowell — the failure to include military service allowance in calculating the pension entitlement of persons who retired from the Defence Forces prior to 1990 having regard to the recommendation of the Gleeson Commission that the allowance should be reckoned for determining pension entitlements; (2) Deputy Enda Kenny — school transport in the Glenamoy-Ballina area of County Mayo; (3) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need for sanction to be granted in respect of the lake shore group water scheme in Oughterard, County Galway; (4) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to allocate substantial funding to local authorities in Border counties to facilitate restoration of cross-Border roads; (5) Deputy Allen — the decision of the Minister for the Environment not to proceed with the sale of local authority flats under the tenant purchase scheme; and the implications of this decision for hundreds of corporation tenants in Cork city and throughout the country; (6) Deputy Shatter — the need for ministerial action to ensure that children are not sexually abused when in care; and (7) Deputy O'Donnell — the plans, if any, to abolish the Emergency Powers Act and to review the Offences Against the State Act and the Special Criminal Court; and if proposals in the matter will be brought to Government.

The matters raised by Deputies Ó Cuív, Brendan Smith, Allen and Michael McDowell have been selected for discussion.
