Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ministerial Visits to Northern Ireland.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

251 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education the number of occasions on which she has visited Northern Ireland since the Government was formed; the date, venue and purpose of each visit; and the same information in relation to the Minister or Ministers of State, if any, at her Department. [1539/94]

On 25 April 1994 I attended a meeting of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference in Stormont Castle, Belfast to discuss possible areas for co-operation in education and sport.

I also addressed the opening session of a conference entitle "Inequalities in Education" which took place in the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle, County Down on 25 March 1993. This conference was organised by Co-operation North.
The Minister of State at my Department, Mr. Liam Aylward, met the Northern Ireland Sports Council and Mr. Michael Ancram, MP, the Minister in the Northern Ireland Office with responsibility for education and sport, on 17 November 1993. The Minister of State also represented the Government at the Northern Ireland v. Ireland football match on the same date.
