Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Terenure (Dublin) School Caretaker.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

254 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that her Department only provides a £7,000 grant for the Presentation School, Terenure, Dublin 6, to employ a caretaker; if she intends to increase this grant as the current employee, a married man with three children, is so badly paid that he is in receipt of a £14 a week Family Income Supplement; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1612/94]

The Presentation School in Terenure was in receipt of additional capitation grant for the provision of a caretaking service at the school.

On 27 September last my Department notified the school authorities that it was prepared to sanction a post of full-time caretaker at the school. The minimum of the salary scale applicable to such an appointment is £10,036.
The appointment was sanctioned with effect from 3 October 1994.
