Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Iranian Opposition to Middle East Peace Process.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

64 Mr. Shatter asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the discussions, if any, he has had with the Iranian Government during the course of the past 12 months; and whether he has asked that Iran ends its opposition to the Middle East peace process and its continued support for terrorist organisations. [459/94]

In January of this year I held discussions with the Foreign Minister of Iran during his visit to Dublin for the second session of the Ireland-Iran Joint Economic Commission. I again met Dr. Valayati at the United Nations in September. Our discussions covered a wide range of issues, and on both occasions I urged Iran to support the Middle East Peace Process and the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism. These topics are also accorded priority in the context of the European Union's Critical Dialogue with Iran.
