Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Visits.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

133 Mr. Currie asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of occasions on which he has visited Northern Ireland since the Government was formed; the date, venue and purpose of each visit; and the same information in relation to the Minister or Ministers of State, if any, at his Department. [1540/94]

I attended the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conferences in Belfast on 23 March and 3 October 1993 and on 25 April 1994.

I had an informal meeting with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland at Hillsborough on 5 September, 1994.

On 23 May 1993, I travelled to Northern Ireland to take part in the official opening of the Shannon-Erne Waterway.

I have also visited Northern Ireland in a private or informal capacity on many occasions.

The Minister of State, Deputy Tom Kitt, visited Ballymena, County Antrim, in February 1993 for a speaking engagement.
