Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

34 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the investment made to date by the county enterprise boards; the number and nature of the jobs that have been created; the average investment per job; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2221/94]

Peadar Clohessy

Ceist:

74 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of companies that have received grants from the county enterprise boards; and the number of jobs that have been created. [2219/94]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 34 and 74 together.

As the Deputies will be aware these are early days yet in the affairs of county enterprise boards and some of the information sought such as the number of jobs actually created is not yet available. This information will be available after the end of this year when it is proposed to publish an annual report.

To date a total amount of £18.4 million has been approved by the 35 boards in respect of 2,100 projects which have a job potential of 3,224 full time and 877 part time jobs. Of the projects approved approximately 400 are in respect of companies with the remainder broken down between individuals, partnerships, community groups and co-operatives.

It is difficult to quantify the average investment per job but in terms of grant aid and taking two part time jobs as the equivalent of one full time job the average grant aid per job at approval stage is £5,000.
