The Government has taken a close and continuing interest in the difficulties which have arisen for Crossmaglen Rangers GAA Club as a result of the proximity to the club of the joint British army-RUC base, and the specific difficulties that have been caused by compulsory requisitioning of land from the GAA and by works on the base. These matters have been the subject of discussion within the framework of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference.
It is my hope, in the new situation that has arisen on foot of the IRA and loyalist ceasefires, that there can be a full and fair resolution of any outstanding issues arising from the impact of the security force base on the GAA grounds in Crossmaglen.
