There are currently nine Bosnian refugees resident at Cherry Orchard and in receipt of unemployment assistance from my Department. The rate of unemployment assistance is the maximum weekly rate applicable in a particular case less the means assessed against the person. In each case means have been assessed on the value of board and lodgings provided by Eastern Health Board at Cherry Orchard, as the refugees are provided with free accommodation, food and heating. The means assessed vary depending on the family circumstances — £25 per week in the case of a single person, £47 per week per person with a spouse-partner and an additional £6 per week for every child.
A person in receipt of unemployment assistance whose circumstances have changed may apply for a review of their means.
