269 Mr. D. McDowell asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if tenders have been sought from airline operators who wish to provide passenger services on Irish domestic routes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3277/94]
Tenders were invited in the Official Journal of the European Communities of 25 June 1994 from air carriers interested in operating services on certain Irish domestic routes. The closing date for the receipt of tenders was 16 August 1994.
The programme of services proposed and the procedures for invitation and consideration of tenders is regulated by Council Regulation (EEC) 2408/92 of 23 July 1992 on Access for Community Air Carriers to intra-Community air routes.
Tenders were received for a number of services and these are being considered, in consultation with the European Commission. It is hoped that decisions on the awarding of contracts for the operation of a number of the routes will be taken shortly.
