Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

129 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of money allocated to local authorities for county and regional roads for each of the years 1990 to 1994. [1321/95]

Details of the total grant payments made to county councils for county and regional roads in the years 1990 to 1994 are set out in the following table:

Year

Grants paid to County Councils for County and Regional Roads.

£m

1990

72.278

1991

71.315

1992

71.232

1993

68.639

1994

96.44

Further grants totalling respectively £10.222 million, £7.985 million, £8.068 million, £6.661 million and £10.56 million in respect of the year 1990-'94 were paid to urban authorities for non-national roads in their areas. It was a matter for those authorities to determine the manner in which grants were expended; the bulk of the funds would, however, have been expended on urban roads, with more limited amounts applied to regional roads.
