Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Drink Driving Regulations.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

132 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the new drink driving regulations and in view of the difficulty of getting late night transport, if he will relax the regulations for the granting of PSV licences at least in so far as December and other peak periods are concerned; if he will withdraw the instructions that licences be given to unemployed persons only in view of the fact that there are many applicants with high quality vehicles that could solve an existing problem. [1360/95]

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

139 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment the progress, if any, made in preparing legislation to deal with the issue of taxi licences and the designation of additional taximeter areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1508/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 132 and 139 together.

I am reviewing the regulations governing the system of licensing taxis and hackneys and will announce decisions as soon as possible on the various issues which arise.
