54 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Health whether he will set a date for implementation of the commitment in the programme for A Government of Renewal to expand present medical card entitlements to include intra-uterine contraceptive devices and diaphragms. [1704/95]

Minister for Health (Mr. Noonan,

Limerick East): I wish to assure the Deputy that I fully intend to honour the commitment contained in the programme for Government in relation to the expansion of the range of family planning services available within the general medical services scheme.

My Department is currently considering how best to give effect to the commitment and I would hope that the appropriate changes will be put in place at the earliest possible date.
