Vol. 448 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Personnel per Head of Population.

Séamus Hughes

Ceist:

90 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health the number of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists for each health board area as a percentage per head of population in each board area; and the action, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that equality of service in each discipline is obtained. [2248/95]

Limerick East): The data requested by the Deputy is set out in the following tabular statement.

Comparisons between health board areas in the ratio of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists should take account of the location of national and regional specialties and the differences in the age structure of the population in each area. Consideration of the need for the employment of additional staff in these grades is a matter for each health agency concerned in the first instance.
