Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Services.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

197 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Social Welfare the services provided at a location (details supplied) in County Cork; and his intentions regarding this location. [2675/95]

The premises in question are used by a social welfare inspector who is responsible for investigating entitlement to various means-tested social welfare payments and for ensuring compliance with legislation in relation to pay-related social insurance. While much of the inspector's work is done at other locations, he is available in the office at particular times each week to interview claimants and to deal with inquiries.

As part of its ongoing programme to upgrade its services, the Department is anxious to improve the waiting facilities for members of the public who attend the office in question. To this end, the Office of Public Works, which is acting for the Department, has commenced negotiations with a view to acquiring extra space in the existing location.
