Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Citizenship Application.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

166 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice the reasons a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 has not been granted Irish citizenship in view of the fact that this person has been a resident for the past eight years, has fully supported himself without ever having to rely on State assistance, has applied on a number of occasions for permanent residency and citizenship of this country and has repeatedly been told to try again in 12 months time and has never been advised of the extra requirements for citizenship he should comply with or on what grounds his applications have been rejected; if she intends to grant citizenship to this person; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3268/95]

It is understood that the person in question continues to pursue a course of studies in the State, and having been granted permission to remain here solely for that purpose, his application for a certificate of naturalisation cannot be granted. The applicant has been so advised by my Department.

If his circumstances should change, he is, of course, free to lodge a fresh application for citizenship.
