40 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Social Welfare the proposals, if any, he has for the taking over of the disabled person's maintenance allowance scheme from the regional health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3203/95]
As I said in my speech on the budget on Thursday last, responsibility for the disabled person's maintenance allowance scheme is being transferred to my Department later this year. At present the scheme is funded through the Department of Health and administered by the health boards. The funding responsibility for the scheme will transfer to my Department in the middle of this year, and arrangements will also be made to transfer the responsibility for the administration of the scheme from the health boards to my Department as soon as this can be arranged in a way that is best for people using the scheme.
