Vol. 449 No. 2

Written Answers. - Early Retirement Scheme.

Tom Moffatt

Ceist:

73 Dr. Moffat asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason that the early retirement scheme has a poor and slow uptake in the west of Ireland; and if this is associated with delays at the Land Registry Office. [3429/95]

As can be seen from the following table, the uptake of the early retirement scheme in western counties is not markedly different from other areas of the country.

There is nothing to indicate that delays in the Land Registry are unduly influencing participation in the scheme in western counties. Variables such as age profile, small farm size or possible loss of social welfare entitlements may have a bearing on participation.
