Vol. 449 No. 7

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 30 in regard to four topics with which I propose to deal separately. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices.

I ask the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to urgently brief TEAM Aer Lingus staff on the situation in the company; if he will agree to furnish the staff with a copy of the special report this week from the chairman of Aer Lingus and if he will now make a statement on the matter.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.

I request the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order 30 to discuss a matter of urgent public importance, namely, the remarks of the Taoiseach regarding public servants and civil servants. Will the Minister for Finance clarify those remarks and does he believe the Government should apologise for this?

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.

You would if you were a civil servant, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to discuss a matter of extreme urgency and public importance, namely, the continuous inaction of this Government to take proper remedial measures to alleviate continuing and now increasing hardship for many families in rural communities as a result of the widespread flooding and damage to property.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.

I seek permission to move the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to discuss a matter of major public importance, namely, the discovery of a large amount of cocaine on a beach in County Clare last Sunday evening.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.

So much for accountability, openness and changing the rules.

(Interruptions.)
