Ceist:52 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Health, in view of recent statistics on teenage drinking and the social cost of alcohol abuse both in terms of deaths and related illnesses, the plans, if any, he has to curtail advertising similar to the curtailment on the advertisment of cigarettes. Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 52 together. As promised in the national health strategy, I propose to publish a national alcohol policy which is currently at an advanced stage of development. This policy is being formulated following an intensive consultation process with relevant interest groups. The policy will address economic, social, cultural, legislative and educational factors in relation to alcohol use and misuse, as well as advertising.
