Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Alternative Energy Scheme.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

151 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the plans, if any, he has in place for improving alternative energy use in Ireland. [5027/95]

The Deputy will be aware of the Government target to secure by 1997 up to 75 megawatts of additional electricity generating capacity from renewable sources of energy and CHP. My colleague, the Minister of State, Deputy Stagg, today announced the results of the alternative energy requirement scheme, administered by the ESB, to meet this target.

A review of strategy in relation to the development of renewable sources of energy will now be carried out following the completion of the alternative energy requirement scheme. This review will form the basis for decisions on the setting of further targets in respect of electricity generation from renewable sources and any incentives which may be appropriate in that regard.
