157 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Marine when a decision will be made in relation to the issue of a licence for the cultivation of oysters to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; and the reason for the delay. [4862/95]
The licence application in question, to engage in oyster cultivation within the applicant's existing licensed area for clam culture in Blacksod Bay, County Mayo, is currently being processed.
Aquaculture licence applications are processed as quickly as possible in full consultation with all relevant interests. The duration of the consultative and decision making process can vary from case to case, however, depending on the technical and scientific considerations and particular local circumstances involved.
I expect to be in a position to finalise a decision on this licence application shortly.
