Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

122 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he will proceed with the plans in his Department to recoganise the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade. [4835/95]

St. Patrick's Day provides us with an opportunity to focus international attention on Ireland. In this context, I believe that the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade which receives significant international media coverage, as our major national parade, should be seen as a vehicle to raise awareness of Ireland as an interesting and fun destination to visit. While Dublin Tourism has overall responsibility for the organisational functions associated with the management and operation of the event I have, nevertheless, asked my Department to examine proposals from the regional tourism organisation and the wider business community with a view to enhancing the 1996 parade.
