Written Answers. - Export of Greyhounds.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

165 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if Irish greyhounds are being exported live to Spain for the purposes of racing on Spanish greyhound tracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5345/95]

Live greyhounds are exported from Ireland to Spain. This is a legitimate trade within the internal market. I have already been in touch with my Spanish counterpart with a view to ensuring that the welfare of these animals is fully respected in Spain. I will raise this issue again when I meet him next week.
