Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Molloy — the inadequate level of subvention for residents of nursing homes and the need to ensure a fair distribution of funds to each of the health boards by establishing national criteria; (2) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need to provide alternative housing for families in the south Galway area whose houses have been flooded for the last six weeks and are likely to be flooded for the foreseeable future: (3) Deputy Shortall — the need for the urgent commencement of section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, in order to tackle the serious problem of joyriding; (4) Deputy Lynch — the urgent need for Ireland to declare a unilateral ban on the manufacture or assembly of landmines, instruments of torture or their components; and to campaign in international fora for a worldwide ban in the manufacture, assembly, trade and use of such instruments; (5) Deputy Sargent — the use of the £25 million equity for TEAM Aer Lingus; and the need to increase the market share of TEAM and to instil confidence in the workforce at TEAM; (6) Deputy O'Malley — the approval under the provisions of the Mergers, Takeovers and Monopolies Acts of the change in ownership of the Goodman Group; (7) Deputy Michael P. Kitt — the need for the appointment of a remedial teacher to Mountbellew, Moylough, Cooloo and Briarfield national schools; (8) Deputy Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly)— the urgent need to introduce a programme of education and training for those in the judicial system, including lawyers and members of the Judiciary, involved in cases of sexual crimes against children; (9) Deputy O'Donnell — the urgent need to review the sentencing guidelines for sexual offences and, in particular, unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor; (10) Deputy Flood — the attempts by Dublin County Council to forcibly remove a travelling family from a site at Fonthill Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, which is causing great distress to this family; (11) Deputy O'Rourke — the need for immediate action to ensure that Silverlea Athlone and Silverlea Athy remain in production in order that the workers' buy-out proposal can be assessed; (12) Deputy Connor — the need for additional funds to be allocated for the roads network in County Roscommon in view of damage caused by exceptionally heavy rainfall in recent months; (13) Deputy Michael Smith — the need to undertake a considered and independent course of action in the Canadian-Spanish fishing dispute; (14) Deputy Dempsey — the need for a decision on the provision of a visitor centre in the Boyne Valley at Donore; (15) Deputy Séamus Brennan — instructions issued by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to the ESB in relation to a deadline for implementing cost-cutting measures; (16) Deputy Callely — the industrial action taken by the staff at the Mater Hospital; (17) Deputy Noel Ahern — the privatisation of the local loans fund; and the short and long term effect it will have on the financial operation and future funding of capital projects by local authorities.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Callely, Dempsey, O'Malley and Michael Smith.
